What is a coach?

Coaches offer an ongoing professional partnership designed to help clients create rewarding outcomes in their personal and professional lives. Coaches assist clients to advance their performances and increase the quality of their lives.

Coaches are qualified to listen, to observe, and to adapt their methods to meet each client’s needs. They seek to bring out resolutions and approaches from the client; they consider all clients to be naturally inspired and capable. The coach's job is to offer support to augment the abilities, resources, and vision that the client already has.

What is coaching?

Coaching assists a client or group of clients by supporting the attainment of remarkable outcomes, based on goals set by the client or the group. Through the method of coaching, clients focus on the abilities and actions needed to effectively produce their individually significant outcomes. Coaching concentrates on where individuals are now and what they are willing to do to get where they want to be in the future.

What does the coaching process look like?

Coaching typically begins with a personal interview (either face – to – face or by teleconference call) to assess the client’s present opportunities and challenges, define the extent of the partnership, identify priorities for achievement, and establish detailed preferred outcomes. Subsequent coaching sessions may be performed in person or over the telephone, with each session lasting a previously established length of time. Between planned coaching sessions, the client may be asked to complete specific actions that support the realization of one’s individually prioritized goals. The coach may provide additional resources in the form of checklists and assessments to support the client’s thinking and actions.

How long does a coach work with an individual?

The length of a coaching professional partnership varies depending on the client’s or group’s needs and preferences. Factors that may impact the length of time include: the types of goals, the ways clients or groups like to work, the frequency of coaching meetings, and financial resources available to support coaching.
